That is the significance of Piccolo and the other Namekians, without them there would be no Dragon Balls to make wishes. Piccolo, who was once Goku's ruthless enemy, became an integral fighter alongside the other Z Warriors. As a matter of fact, Piccolo teamed up with Goku in their fight against Raditz. In addition, he trained Goku's son Gohan, to prepare for the upcoming battles against the Saiyans Vegeta & Nappa. In conclusion, Piccolo is pretty bad-ass.
